Royal Jelling (Kongernes Jelling) Do you still have difficulty remembering who was who in Viking times? And do you really hate getting Trivial Pursuit questions on the Viking Age? Then maybe you should visit the Viking information centre Royal Jelling, where you can hear all about the rune stones and Harald Bluetooth and see how Gorm the Old is related to Queen Margrethe II.
According to some people, the rune stones prove that Jelling was the power centre of Denmark at one time. The two fantastic rune stones are located in the churchyard just south of Jelling church. For more than a thousand years, they have told the story of two of the great Viking kings: Gorm the Old and Harald Bluetooth.
Visit the burial mounds at Jelling, including the wooden burial chamber that was discovered in 1820 after a lucky accident in one of the mounds, Nordhøj. It has now been established that Nordhøj was built as a burial chamber for Gorm the Old.

The Viking longship Jelling Orm
If you visit Fårup lake in summer, you may be surprised to see a fully equipped Viking longship, which is even manned occasionally. A mere 15 metres in length, Jelling Orm is possibly a bit smaller than the ships Harald Bluetooth used to sail. It is, however, still a sight worth seeing.
