Lake and river fishing

Although it might be tempting, never fish in any of the lakes and rivers of Denmark without first acquiring a permit. Most fresh water fishing rights are privately owned, but are often leased to local angling clubs. Besides the compulsory national rod licence, you therefore also require a permit to fish in rivers or lakes.
Such permits typically cost DKK 40-150 for a day or DKK 100-350 for a week.

Local tourist offices can provide detailed information on fresh-water angling and can often provide the necessary permits. In addition, local angling clubs are often pleased to issue permits.

You can also purchase permits at www.dagkort.dk, where day, weekend, week or annual permits are available for the Danish fisheries affiliated with the scheme. The website allows you to book and pay for permits via the Internet. Once you have entered all the details, you immediately receive an email containing the permit, which you can then print on your own printer.

Anglers have an obligation to investigate whether any special restrictions or preservation regulations are applicable. Such information will usually be given along with your fishing permit.
